Vanessa dreams of going to medical school and becoming a pediatrician, Neila is interested in pursuing a degree in either nursing or in journalism. Denise is already preparing to take the difficult college entrance exam (vestibular).

Alagados: Sim, Não Mau Conduto also screened recently at the Amostra Cine Brasil in Sweden and at the Cineclube Komba Kanema in Mozambique.

Alagados is part of the 2008 Mountainfilm World Tour screening at locations across the country and at places such as National Geographic in Washington, DC. See the tour schedule.

College Scholarship Fund

Based on the belief that education is the key to helping people help themselves, The Alagados Project has established a college scholarship fund to put talented young people from the community of Alagados through college and give them a concrete opportunity to move up out of poverty. Generous seed funding from a private donor was raised during the Colorado Summer Tour. Our first student has just successfully completed his first year of college and we are in the process of selecting two more recipients.

Alagados Project Summer Tour 2008

This past summer kicked off with an incredible Colorado screening tour in June. Ubiratan Assis, an accomplished percussionist and native of Alagados, who collaborated in creating the original score for the film joined us for the tour. Events included film screenings, Q&A's with the director Sylvia Johnson and music director Ubiratan Assis, a traveling photo exhibit of the kids' photography work, music performances, and Afro-Brazilian music workshops.

October 2007

Alagados: Sim, Não Mau Conduto nominated for a David L Wolper Student Documentary Award by the International Documentary Association in LA! (

Several successful screenings in Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley have generated enough interest to get the Alagados College Scholarship Fund off of the ground.

We now have fiscal sponsorship through the Creative Visions Foundation.
